Animist Journey is a performance by Per Huttner with Sámi shaman Jonas Engman. It was performed at Teatermaskinen in Riddarhyttan on September 8, 2023.
When the performance begins, Engman is already in trance and he wears his shaman attire. He starts singing and playing his drum and embarks on a journey. Under his headgear he wears an EEG-cap and Huttner measures his brain activity in real time. After a while Huttner starts making electronic music which is based on Engman’s brain activity. Towards the end of the performance journey, Huttner makes a sonic sign that slowly takes Engman out of the trance.
